Every athlete has that moment—the one where it clicks. You realize pushing to the next level isn’t just about effort or grit. It’s about recovery. Fuel. Mindset. It’s about finding the little things that add up to big change.
For me, that moment came in high school. I was constantly shifting gears—football in the fall, cross country running alongside it, track in the spring, and swimming year-round. I’d drive two hours every day just to make it to swim practice. Looking back, it wasn’t just about chasing wins—it was about chasing my potential.
But no matter the sport, I always felt like there had to be something more—some way to recover faster, stay energized longer, and show up fully every day. That drive to find the “extra 1%” never left me.
When Everything Felt Off—And the Turning Point That Changed It All
Things shifted in college, but not in the way I expected.
During my first two years, I was struggling—hard. I had Lyme disease, an underactive thyroid, and got hit with COVID. At the same time, I was competing on an NCAA DIII swim team, trying to keep up in the pool while my body constantly felt like it was running on empty.
I remember cramping at taper meets, dragging through practices I used to dominate, and wondering why I couldn’t perform the way I used to. It was more than physical. I felt frustrated, disconnected, and unsure of how to move forward.
And yet, even in that state, I managed to go best times. That was the lightbulb moment: If I could do that while feeling this terrible, what could I accomplish if everything was actually aligned?
That became my obsession—figuring out how to line it all up: nutrition, mindset, supplements, and smart recovery. I spent hours digging into research, breaking down ingredients, and testing what actually made a difference. That journey didn’t just lead to better habits—it sparked a drive to dive deeper, culminating in earning my ISSA Certified Nutritionist certification years later to better serve athletes like me. Slowly, I started to feel like myself again. Stronger. More consistent. And yes—faster.
And that’s when the idea for Athletic Intake really took shape.
